This task has been set by Genesis Christian College as part of their curriculum, however games have been disallowed by the college and thus have no links with it's curriculum. Therefore it is my job to demonstrate to the school how this unit has many links to the Genesis curriculum and benefit the college despite it's obvious connections to games.
The overall aim of the project is for the students to design, develop and evaluate a game that has the potential to be sold on the windows app store. Although the overall product of the project is not educational it will provide the students with a stepping stone into the field of game design and development if they so desire to enter that field. This is a rare opportunity to provide to students and will allow them to have higher chances of entering universities that specialize in the game development field.
The actual process of the DDE (Design,Develop and Evaluate) is highly educational and beneficial to the student. This forces the student to justify what decisions they made and why and will demonstrate the thought patterns of the student better than any other type of assessment. The DDE will also provide the student with more real world experience as similar projects will be undertaken for clients and this provides an easy to follow structure that will help with all client/ developer communications. These criteria are all easily found within the Genesis curriculum
The Target audience for the desired games would be aimed, in my case, towards a more high school based audience however still being playable bu a younger audience. the game itself would be aimed at a public market and that would in turn link the many players back to the school as it was a student created game. This game would have to potential to further increase the reputation of the school and work to be an excellent example of student work to encourage more people to show an interest in the school and it's community. The fact that this is a mobile game also will appeal to a more technological audience and have an opportunity to showcase the standard of work produced in these area's to the public. Overall allowing to creation of a game into the schools curriculum has the potential to impact the school in a positive way.
The software and hardware requirements are also quite small, the DDE process is to be covered in the form of a blog (as shown here) which can be accessed on any device with internet connection and web browser. The final product of the project, the game, will be able to be accessed on any mobile device through the internet as well as on a PC or Mac. The programs that would be used in the design and develop phases of this project are already located on the school computers and available to students. this shows that the college would not need to provide any extra programs or facilities for students to be able to complete this task.
As demonstrated above Genesis Christian College should have no objections to the outlined project as it will benefit both the school and the student in the long run as well as contains a unique perspective into the thoughts of the student throughout the project. As the school would have no concerns about the project all tasks will be completed as originally outlined and no further alterations need to be made.
Hi Kaylah,
ReplyDeleteIn your first paragraph you wrote "games have been disallowed by the college and thus have no links with it's curriculum." Support your statement with quotes. As this statement stands, I believe it is incorrect. I think your use of the word thus is incorrectly used
The rest of what you have is good but in the Design aspect of the unit, you have not addressed (as yet) the requirements of the program (use of arrays etc) and how you will approach this in the Development of the software.
This is a good attempt at interpreting and analyzing the problems of the client and coming up with a solution. These problems you have identified have been effectively answered in you final script. Well Done.
