Beta Testing

Now that the game has been created several Beta testers were recruited to test the game and provide feedback.

The First Beta Tester was Caleb Dunwell a current year 10 student.

He stated that:
"It is obsessive. But the bugs in how you go out of the outskirts of the background and it says game over but Widget keeps moving and you can still control him back onto the screen. But besides that the game works great."
He also added  "I played it all last night" and "The game works better or more efficiently on a mobile device. I can play it on both Andriod and Apple"

Caleb was able to identify one of the bugs that was missed during development and this will be fixed. As the game was designed to be played on a mobile device the ability to play on both Andriod and Apple is important.

The Second Beta Tester was Rohan Cruickshank a  year 12 Student

Rohan stated that:  "One thing I would recommend with your game is to decrease the number of large cogs that spawn. They seem to group up and make the levels impossible if there are 2 or 3."

Rohan raised a good point however as the spawning is random sometimes three large ones spawn and are avoidable that being said i will look into the trajectory of the gears to make the game slightly more managable

The Third Beta Tester was Isaac Joyce another year 12 Student

Isaac stated that "Controls were a little fidgety might be a good idea to change the instructions to tap a side of the screen instead of just left or right" and that the game had "rather difficult gameplay"

Isaac's advice about the menu will be taken on board and the instructions will be altered to be slightly more clear. the fidgety controls cannot really be helped as depending on the machine will depend on how fluid the controls run. The gameplay difficulty is hard and was also mentioned by Rohan so i will defiantly look into making the gears slightly more avoidable.

Several other beta testers who won't be named also said that
"It's really hard, maybe make it easier"
"It's really fun and Widget is really cute. I love the spinning gears when he gets hit"
"The game concept is really cool"

Through this feedback it is easy to see that the game received several great reviews however the common theme is that the game is to hard. therefore i will need to decrease the difficulty I will also need to fix the bug that was discovered by Caleb. Also during my own beta testing i discovered that after you click play again the score increases at twice the normal rate causing the player to achieve higher scores than usual this will also be addressed.

  1. Some great feedback that was obtained. A game that is too difficult is sometimes difficult to come to grips with. Take for example Flappy Bird. If the Dev listened to most people and made the game easier, would the game have been as successful? It is debatable and this is a decision that rest soley with the the developer and is obviously something difficult to give a definitive answer to
